According to Axel Loubette, the idea of failure is inherent in the dance creation process. It is only when we overcome failure that we meet success. The goal was to create a piece dealing with resilience through failure.
The Task is a choreographic challenge for dancers since each performance is a questioning, the overall form of the piece is never fixed. Mirroring our lives modelled by failure, the choreography is in a constant evolution and dancers always have to master new challenges. A certain amount of “tasks” are imposed to the dancers while they are performing, in order to allow them to feel emotions linked to the idea of failure such as emergency, confusion, stress and the need for them to fight for success in every performance.
Real fails may happen randomly on stage but it is only a potentiality. Rather than to mock failure, Axel Loubette wishes, above all, to honour qualities developed through failure, such as perseverance and tenacity.
